You keep waiting for the motivation to catch up. You clean up your eating for three days, then the same week happens again: the same conversations, the same fridge, the same friend group asking why you're being so strict lately, and the plan slips before Thursday. You start wondering if the problem is you. It isn't. Nobody builds a different body inside the same environment that built the one they're trying to leave behind.
Coaches Marilynn, Tijana, and Jordanna get into why environment, not willpower, decides whether progress sticks or slides back the second life gets busy. Motivation was never the missing piece. The setup around you was, and this episode is about seeing that setup clearly enough to finally change it.
Each of them has lived this. Jordanna left corporate and moved cities. Marilynn walked away from a teaching career after almost two decades because the environment was wearing her down. Tijana stopped a party lifestyle cold turkey after a moment that made her question everything she'd normalized. Each shift came down to the same thing: changing what was around them until the old version of themselves no longer fit.
Here's what’s covered:
Why your results will never outgrow your environment, no matter how good your program or meal plan is
The three environments shaping your outcomes: physical, social, and mental and emotional, and how each one works on you daily, whether you notice it or not
What your home gym setup, kitchen, and workspace are quietly telling you about who you believe you're becoming
Marilynn's story of leaving teaching and what happened to her health once she left that social environment behind
Tijana's story of walking away from a party lifestyle and the moment that made her stop accepting it as her normal
Why "you're the average of the five people you spend the most time with" isn't a cliché.
How to get intentional about your environment without cutting people off or blowing up your life overnight
The Foundation, Empowerment, and Elevate phases of the Strength Sculpting System, and why most women stall right before Elevate
The crab bucket problem: what happens when the people around you climb over each other to pull you back down the second you start changing
This episode is for the woman who keeps rebuilding the same plan inside the same environment and wondering why nothing sticks, who has a full fridge and a full calendar and zero space in either one that reflects who she's trying to become, and who has quietly known for a while that the problem was never her effort.

The unedited podcast transcript for this episode of the Get Sculpted podcast follows:
Marilynn [00:00:12 - 00:00:12]: [00:00:12] Definitely.
Tijana [00:00:13 - 00:00:13]: [00:00:13] 100%.
The Power of Environment
Jordanna [00:00:14 - 00:00:47]: [00:00:14] Awesome. [00:00:14] Tell me if this sounds familiar. [00:00:16] All right. [00:00:17] You're doing the work, you're showing up, but something still feels like it's missing. [00:00:22] Like you're making the progress, but you're not quite becoming the woman you set out to when you started this journey. [00:00:28] Here's what I've learned after over a decade of doing this personal work myself. [00:00:32] Your results will never outgrow your environment, not your physical environment, not your emotional environment, and not the people you choose to surround yourself with. [00:00:43] So if you want to elevate your results, you have to elevate everything around you too.
The Strength Sculpting System Overview
Jordanna [00:00:48 - 00:01:40]: [00:00:48] So today we're talking about exactly that, your environment, your people, your identity, and the version of yourself that is waiting on the other side of a decision to finally take it all seriously. [00:00:58] Seriously. [00:00:59] And before we get to the how, I do wanna do a little bit of a reminder because in our program, we help our women ascend into the elevation stage. [00:01:11] And in order to do that, we walk them through what we call the Strength Sculpting System. [00:01:15] So if you're new around here, I'm gonna give you a super brief, like 15-second overview. [00:01:20] So you are all caught up with us and go into this journey of the episode a little more deeply. [00:01:25] So for anyone new to Get Sculpted, our system moves women through 3 very intentional phases. [00:01:31] The foundation phase is where you reset, you break down the habits keeping you stuck, you build new routines, and you start making real progress towards your health and fitness goals.
The Three Phases: Foundation, Empower, Elevate
Jordanna [00:01:41 - 00:02:03]: [00:01:41] Once you've reached a lot of those goals, we move you into the empowerment phase, and this is where you reinforce what you've built. [00:01:49] You've overcome the inevitable hurdles, you rebuild your beliefs, and you push through the plateaus that used to stop you. [00:01:55] This is also where we test your metabolic resiliency. [00:01:58] We increase your calories. [00:02:00] We help you figure out what your maintenance looks like.Tijana [00:02:03 - 00:02:03]: [00:02:03] Mm-hmm.
Jordanna [00:02:04 - 00:02:53]: [00:02:04] And then there's Elevate. [00:02:06] Elevate is where you become her, like the 2.0 version of yourself, the woman who no longer thinks about losing weight because she's too busy living the life she built. [00:02:16] And the reason most women stall before they reach Elevate, it's not really a discipline problem. [00:02:23] It ends up being where the environment gets in their way. [00:02:26] You cannot think your way into a new identity. [00:02:28] You have to be placed inside experiences, spaces, relationships that reflect who you are becoming and that support and reinforce it. [00:02:37] Um, and that missing piece that no meal plan or workout program alone can give you. [00:02:43] So that is exactly where this conversation begins for us today, because we all had a moment where our environment was either holding us back Or it became the thing that cracked everything open.
Physical Environment & Personal Story
Jordanna [00:02:53 - 00:03:56]: [00:02:53] And I'd love to start with mine because the physical environment was super huge, and then we're going to pass it over to cover the others. [00:03:03] So the first one was the physical environment, and my personal shift here was about leaving corporate and moving cities. [00:03:10] Those decisions really unlocked another level for me. [00:03:14] It was my new environment that I was creating that allowed me to Emerge as this new level of who I wanted to become. [00:03:22] And the moment that I stopped being the woman who tried to fit fitness into my old life, it, you know, helped me be the woman who fit my life around my health and fitness. [00:03:32] And that was a huge thing for me. [00:03:35] And when you are thinking about your physical environment, it's really important to think about the fact that your physical environment is sending you these signals every single day, reinforcing what you believe, what you see, what your routines are. [00:03:49] And they either say that you are the person you wanna be, or they're having you stay stuck in an old story.Marilynn [00:03:56 - 00:03:57]: [00:03:56] Mm-hmm.
Jordanna [00:03:57 - 00:03:59]: [00:03:57] Would you girls find this to be true? [00:03:58] 100%.
Tijana [00:04:00 - 00:04:01]: [00:04:00] Yeah, exactly.
Marilynn [00:04:01 - 00:04:03]: [00:04:01] Your environment shapes so much of who you are.
Tijana [00:04:04 - 00:04:10]: [00:04:04] Yeah, I was gonna say it's stronger than willpower. [00:04:06] That's, that can be true too, but in a different context, it dictates like, you know, your success for sure.
Marilynn [00:04:10 - 00:04:11]: [00:04:10] 100%.
The Importance of Intentional Spaces
Jordanna [00:04:11 - 00:04:40]: [00:04:11] And this includes things like your home gym setup or where you train if you go to a gym. [00:04:16] Your kitchen and what you include in there, the tools and resources you have, how you fill your fridge. [00:04:22] It can include your workspace, like your desk space, your office, where you go to work. [00:04:26] The routes you walk can also impact this, you know, like are they help building you up or are they draining you? [00:04:32] And the spaces you spend time in, whether that's at home or out in the world, all of these impact your success eventually as a person.Marilynn [00:04:40 - 00:04:41]: [00:04:40] Mm-hmm.
Jordanna [00:04:41 - 00:05:04]: [00:04:41] And you don't need a perfect setup, but you do need to make it an intentional one. [00:04:45] And these small physical environmental shifts can create big psychological impacts. [00:04:52] How many clients do we have? [00:04:53] Like, I have a few that didn't really have a gym membership. [00:04:56] They wanted to work out from home. [00:04:58] They were trying to just pull out their workout equipment every time they worked out. [00:05:01] And over time they were like, actually, I need a dedicated space.
Marilynn [00:05:05 - 00:05:06]: [00:05:05] I love when that happens.
Tijana [00:05:06 - 00:05:06]: [00:05:06] Yeah.
Marilynn [00:05:07 - 00:05:07]: [00:05:07] That's one of my favorite things.
Tijana [00:05:07 - 00:05:08]: [00:05:07] Oh, 100%. [00:05:08] Yeah.
Jordanna [00:05:08 - 00:05:17]: [00:05:08] It's like that first like entry shift and then they're like, oh, Oh, not only do I want dedicated space, I want, I want a rose, I want this, and I wanna, I wanna put up a mirror.
Marilynn [00:05:17 - 00:05:18]: [00:05:17] A good space.
Jordanna [00:05:18 - 00:05:38]: [00:05:18] Yeah. [00:05:18] They want a good space. [00:05:19] And that just one example of how your physical environment unlocks the path that you're gonna follow to become the woman that you want to be. [00:05:28] And Mare, you made a similar like shift in life, leaving teaching. [00:05:35] What did that environmental shift change for you?
Social Environment & Teaching Story
Marilynn [00:05:38 - 00:06:05]: [00:05:38] Yeah, this was a big one when you think about like your social environment, right? [00:05:41] I was a classroom teacher for a long time, like almost 2 decades, and I loved teaching. [00:05:45] I didn't do it by accident. [00:05:46] It was like my passion. [00:05:47] But over the time that I was a teacher, the education environment shifted in some really big ways. [00:05:52] So if you've been, you know, following the news or you have kids like you guys in school, you might know what I'm talking about, like political tension and like behavior and issues with parents. [00:06:01] I'm like, the list goes on. [00:06:02] So the social environment became so overwhelmingly negative.Tijana [00:06:06 - 00:06:06]: [00:06:06] Yeah.
Marilynn [00:06:06 - 00:06:38]: [00:06:06] So a lot of us overachieving women, like you still show up, right? [00:06:10] You're there for the people in your life. [00:06:11] I was there for my students, but it was impacting me on so many levels, my health, my relationships. [00:06:17] I was depressed. [00:06:18] I was sad. [00:06:19] And I started becoming so negative and that's not who I am, right? [00:06:23] So when I made the decision to leave teaching, obviously it was not easy. [00:06:27] It was not smooth. [00:06:28] I did have a breakdown because I let that social environment bring me down. [00:06:32] That depression, the anxiety, all of that was truly a big catalyst for all of that was the social environment that I was in.
Marilynn [00:06:39 - 00:07:34]: [00:06:39] But when I took the step away, Joy, kind of like you, like moving cities, right? [00:06:43] You give yourself that space to get perspective. [00:06:46] And as soon as I left that social environment, I was feeling better physically, I was feeling better mentally. [00:06:51] And it was like, holy moly, so much of what I was experiencing was that social environment I was in. [00:06:56] So, for myself, and I know for you girls, we've talked about this on past episodes, like we've really thrown ourselves into our fitness journey. [00:07:03] And that has given us so much strength, and in my case, courage to leave teaching. [00:07:07] But like, I think the big takeaway for me was you can't always see what you're capable of when you're inside a social environment that is bringing you down constantly. [00:07:17] So that's why sometimes the biggest change you can make, the best change, is to like actually get yourself out of that space. [00:07:24] There's that saying that says you're the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with, and I think that is so true, right? [00:07:29] We regulate ourselves, whether it's like our emotions, our behavior, Through the people around us in our social environment.
Marilynn [00:07:34 - 00:07:52]: [00:07:34] So for me, it was like the people I was around were so stressed out, so negative. [00:07:39] It was survival mode every single day. [00:07:41] So that became my baseline and I had to regulate myself inside of that. [00:07:45] So it's not about leaving the people behind. [00:07:48] I might not be in my teaching environment. [00:07:49] I still love my teacher friends. [00:07:51] I still see them. [00:07:52] I connect with them.
Marilynn [00:07:53 - 00:07:55]: [00:07:53] But you said this word, Jordan, it's so important. [00:07:54] You have to be intentional.
Jordanna [00:07:56 - 00:07:56]: [00:07:56] Yeah.
Marilynn [00:07:56 - 00:08:13]: [00:07:56] Whether it's intentional with your space or or intentional about the people you add to your life, you have to be really conscious of who you're welcoming in. [00:08:04] And so, I would say when we look at the ladies in our Get Sculpted community, the ones who make really profound changes are the ones who lean into our community, our momentum calls.
Jordanna [00:08:13 - 00:08:13]: [00:08:13] Yeah.
Marilynn [00:08:14 - 00:08:29]: [00:08:14] They come to everything that, you know, we offer. [00:08:16] They just like soak it up because that is a social environment of other women who believe in their potential. [00:08:21] And it's like, you see what's possible instead of it being negative. [00:08:24] You're like, wow, I wanna do that. [00:08:26] I wanna see that. [00:08:26] Mm-hmm. [00:08:27] It's so uplifting. [00:08:29] Yeah.
Marilynn [00:08:29 - 00:08:48]: [00:08:29] Social environment plays such a huge impact on your journey. [00:08:32] And the sad part is a lot of women don't have access to it. [00:08:35] Like they, they don't have those spaces. [00:08:37] Like we're so fortunate that we've created this space for us and our clients. [00:08:41] So, T, you came from a very different world before this and you kind of shifted who you were spending your time with. [00:08:47] So yeah, tell us a little bit about that.
Changing Circles: Tijana's Story
Tijana [00:08:49 - 00:09:21]: [00:08:49] Well, it's interesting cuz I just made a kind of story rant about this the other day that was basically saying that the wrong environment is honestly like a cancer. [00:08:56] Not to be dramatic, but it really can feed you in such a wrong way and you don't realize it until you're out of it sometimes. [00:09:02] And it just absolutely affects you in every way because it affects your mindset, it affects your habits, it affects how you show up, it affects your belief in yourself, it affects what you see as possible. [00:09:11] So just like you were saying, the environment you're in rubs off on you in a positive way. [00:09:15] The wrong one's gonna rub off in the wrong way. [00:09:17] So you start seeing that as your normal, like I came from a, a party lifestyle, right?Jordanna [00:09:21 - 00:09:21]: [00:09:21] Mm-hmm.
Tijana [00:09:21 - 00:09:51]: [00:09:21] So I've been in fitness for quite some time, but even fitness people I find have had their party circles, if you will. [00:09:27] And, um, yeah, my norm was just like, you just party every weekend. [00:09:31] Like it's just what you do. [00:09:32] And it's interesting cuz I kind of thought that everybody in their early 20s was like that. [00:09:35] And I remember actually talking to ChatGPT about this, but not, not everyone was getting blackout drunk 5 times a week. [00:09:41] I just was like, oh, that's just what you do. [00:09:43] But yeah, that was in my early 20s. [00:09:45] But you know, even throughout the years of the circles I hung out with, it was like, I think a lot of them are probably still going if they don't have kids.
Tijana [00:09:51 - 00:09:52]: [00:09:51] They're like 40 and plus.
Marilynn [00:09:52 - 00:09:53]: [00:09:52] Some with kids are still going.
Jordanna [00:09:54 - 00:09:54]: [00:09:54] Some with kids. [00:09:54] Yeah.
Tijana [00:09:55 - 00:10:23]: [00:09:55] 100%. [00:09:56] Yeah. [00:09:56] I actually remember near the end of when I was gonna stop partying, not to be judgmental to this person, but a lot of the times I had these moments where I was like, just got like so much anxiety and I was like, I don't think I belong in this situation. [00:10:07] And then I was like, but I, I do belong in this situation cuz look at me in this situation. [00:10:11] Like I was kind of pre-drinking for this, uh, you know, day festival that we were going to. [00:10:15] I remember I met this girl there and, uh, someone's like, oh, Tiana, you have kids? [00:10:19] She just had a baby 2 weeks ago. [00:10:21] And I'm like, Oh, okay. [00:10:22] And then I, I felt bad.
Tijana [00:10:23 - 00:10:31]: [00:10:23] I don't mean to sound judgmental, but it's like she was out raving and, you know, doing substances. [00:10:28] And I'm like, you have a 2-week-old newborn. [00:10:30] Like, oh my God, what am I doing here?
Marilynn [00:10:31 - 00:10:32]: [00:10:31] Yeah.
Tijana [00:10:32 - 00:10:51]: [00:10:32] I remember thinking at that moment, I'm like, I don't wanna normalize this for myself. [00:10:35] And that was when, uh, January 1st, 2022, I was like, I was just so ashamed of myself. [00:10:40] I was like, why am I fitting in with this environment? [00:10:43] I don't blame the environment because I was part of the environment. [00:10:45] I was perpetuating that. [00:10:47] But I remember thinking like, It's just not acceptable anymore at all.
Jordanna [00:10:51 - 00:10:53]: [00:10:51] You wanted to hold a new standard for yourself.
Tijana [00:10:53 - 00:11:12]: [00:10:53] 100%. [00:10:54] It was almost like deep inside I'm like, this is below my standards already, but yeah, I'm not accepting this as my standard, period. [00:11:00] And then that was when I was like, I'm a very rip the bandaid off person. [00:11:03] I don't believe in like, oh, I'm gonna take, you know, 2 months to marinate and then do this slowly and dip my feet. [00:11:07] I'm like, I'm just gonna do it. [00:11:08] No, no more drinking. [00:11:09] So that was 4 years and 8 months ago.
Marilynn [00:11:12 - 00:11:12]: [00:11:12] Amazing.
Jordanna [00:11:12 - 00:11:13]: [00:11:12] You're awesome.
Tijana [00:11:13 - 00:11:14]: [00:11:13] Thank you.
Marilynn [00:11:14 - 00:11:14]: [00:11:14] Yeah.
Tijana [00:11:14 - 00:11:20]: [00:11:14] So I mean, look, and at that time it's not like I thought, oh, everybody is like So bad. [00:11:19] Again, I was part of that environment.
Marilynn [00:11:20 - 00:11:21]: [00:11:20] Mm-hmm.
Tijana [00:11:21 - 00:11:37]: [00:11:21] And I'm like, I wish you the best, but I'm not gonna be a part of that. [00:11:24] So then I was like, okay, I'm gonna go and hang out with people who are still doing that stuff and just business as usual. [00:11:30] It was like, no, I'm gonna lean into the friends that I, I have that I haven't hung out with as much. [00:11:35] And yes, obviously, like you guys, we started Get Sculpted.
Jordanna [00:11:37 - 00:11:37]: [00:11:37] Yep.
Tijana [00:11:37 - 00:12:02]: [00:11:37] Like, you know, we, we did all these amazing things and now it's like the fitness and health stuff is my norm. [00:11:43] Like hanging out with people who are like-minded and Going to bed early and eating protein. [00:11:46] Like, that's the norm. [00:11:48] That's the conversations. [00:11:49] And it's funny because I hang out with people who are still in the, in the party lifestyle, or talk to them the odd time, and I'm like, they're just living a different life. [00:11:55] So, you know, I share this because it's, it's intentional. [00:11:58] And sometimes we get in this doom and gloom mindset of, oh, it's just who I am. [00:12:01] It's just my circle.
Tijana [00:12:02 - 00:12:11]: [00:12:02] Well, you know, like you don't need to dump all your friends overnight by any means, but like you can also choose not to go to these things or like participate in these behaviors and make new friends.
Jordanna [00:12:11 - 00:12:11]: [00:12:11] Mm-hmm.
Tijana [00:12:11 - 00:12:24]: [00:12:11] Like, I don't care if you're 40, 50, 60. [00:12:13] Make new friends, try something new, join a community, join our community, join Get Sculpted. Jordanna [00:12:24 - 00:12:25]: [00:12:24] Yeah.

Becoming Intentional About Your Environment
Jordanna [00:12:51 - 00:13:35]: [00:12:51] Amazing. [00:12:51] So like, I think one of the things that all 3 of us have said throughout this episode is the word intentional. [00:12:57] And I love that because your environment is and should be an intentional thing. [00:13:03] At some point you made a decision or a choice That helped shape and frame that environment for you. [00:13:09] And this is why it's so important from our perspective as coaches and the clients that we work with to take them through this intentional, again, these phases of rebuilding your foundation. [00:13:21] It does not matter how advanced you are, your foundation and anybody who is worth the salt is going to be like, yeah, I want you to take a look at this. [00:13:30] Where are my gaps? [00:13:31] Because even the most advanced people, they have a couple that are worth review.Tijana [00:13:35 - 00:13:36]: [00:13:35] Mm-hmm.
Jordanna [00:13:36 - 00:14:10]: [00:13:36] Then we want to empower you. [00:13:38] We want you to know what life is like when you are done dieting and you are living in the body that you've built and you are proud of it, and you will now be learning how to keep it. [00:13:48] Then we want you to elevate beyond anything you've ever even thought is possible. [00:13:53] When you first talk to us and we help figure out what does success look like for you, you are going to be redefining what success looks like at every phase. [00:14:01] And so by the time you get to elevate, You're going to have dreams open up and unlock for you and opportunities. [00:14:06] You're going to be like, oh my gosh, I can go climb that mountain. [00:14:08] I can go take this course. [00:14:09] I can go do this.
Jordanna [00:14:11 - 00:14:48]: [00:14:11] I can be that. [00:14:12] And it is an incredible place to be. [00:14:15] And, and if you don't have the environment locked and loaded, this is when you need to do that work because your results will never outgrow your environment. [00:14:25] It is very easy. [00:14:26] It's like that crab bucket analogy, right? [00:14:28] You could be the crab that's climbing out. [00:14:30] But they will all climb over each other just to reach you and pull you back down. [00:14:34] So it is very important that you take these 3 types of environments that we've talked about, your physical environment, either reflecting the woman you are becoming or keeping you anchored to who you used to be. [00:14:46] Like, think about your physical environment.
Jordanna [00:14:49 - 00:15:09]: [00:14:49] Where do you sleep? [00:14:50] Where do you work out? [00:14:51] What's going on in your kitchen? [00:14:52] What work environment are you in? [00:14:54] Your social environment, it's either going to lift your ceiling or keep you very stuck. [00:15:00] You know, be deliberate about who you're adding into your life and lean into community of women around you who are doing the work alongside you. [00:15:08] They're moving in the same direction as you.
Marilynn [00:15:09 - 00:15:09]: [00:15:09] Mm-hmm.
Jordanna [00:15:10 - 00:15:50]: [00:15:10] And then your mental and emotional environment, it's the filter through which everything comes through to you. [00:15:17] So if it's full of noise, negativity, Mary, you talked so well about like what that looks like too for you and T. [00:15:24] No program in the world is going to work for you if the filter is blocked. [00:15:29] So that inner work is not optional. [00:15:31] It is the work that needs to be done. [00:15:34] And if you are one of our Get Sculpted clients, you already know what is coming and we can't wait. [00:15:40] We're so excited for you to step into that Elevate phase because it is on your success path. [00:15:47] No matter where you've started, we've already thought through your journey for you.
